Former captain and legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble was appointed India’s full-time head coach for a year by the BCCI’s cricket advisory committee on Thursday. The position was left vacant for 15 months after Duncan Fletcher chose not to renew his contract following India’s exit from the 2015 World Cup.

Ravi Shastri, who was also in the fray to become coach, continued as team director till the 2015 World Cup with mixed results across formats. However, Kumble’s appointment is being seen as a massive step.
